In Chapter 9 The Chamber of Fire, Molly sees a powerful woman at the Valdars Festival of Light and curious, she asks Charlotte Yarrowood who she is.

  ‘That’s Seren Vael,’ replied Charlotte. ‘A Valdarie Sorceress. She teaches them to control their gift; how to listen to the light before they try to command it.

  ‘The light?’ Molly asked, frowning. ‘What do you mean?’ 

  Charlotte didn’t answer straight away. Her eyes followed the Valdarie as they passed. ‘The light of the Valdar, it’s a power within.’ One of the girls in the line stumbled, halting the line and Seren Vael’s staff struck the ground sharply. The line moved on. ‘In the past, some Valdarie chose the wrong way,’ she said, glancing back at Molly.
