We first meet Charlie in Chapter 3 The Black Serpent. Charlie works for the Black Serpent gang, a criminal network spread across London, involved in protection rackets, stolen goods, blackmail and extortion. Charlie is a lookout for pickpockets in the local market. But, as per ususual Charlie becomes distratced, on this ocasion by Molly. In the busy market Molly has become separated from her grandmother and is also being closely watched  by unknown chinese man. Charlie offers to help Molly find her way back but everything takes a turn for the worse when a Black Serpent henchman arrives.
